Celsus — Website builds

Service 02 / 04

Business websites

A site that loads fast, says what you do, and turns a visitor into a booking.

Not a template with your logo dropped in. A small, quick site built around the two or three things people actually come to your site to do.

The window you get on a phone

0s — they land

they have gone — ≈5s

What has to fit inside it

  1. 01Work out what you do
  2. 02Find your hours, or your price
  3. 03Book, call, or send an enquiry

01—The problem

Most small business websites fail at the same point: someone lands on a phone, cannot find your hours or a way to book within about five seconds, and leaves. Everything else — the photography, the about page, the animation — is decoration on top of that failure.

So we build in the opposite order. We work out the two or three jobs a visitor came to do, make those unmissable, and then make the rest good-looking. The result is a smaller site than you were expecting, and it works harder.

Who this is for

Businesses with no site, or with one that is slow, unreadable on a phone, or has not been touched since it was built.

02—The process

07 stages

  1. 01

We agree what the site is for

Bookings? Enquiries? Stopping the phone ringing with questions already answered on the page? A site trying to do five things does none of them. We pick the one that matters and design around it.

  2. 02

    We write the words first

Layout follows copy, never the other way around. You get the text as a plain document to read, argue with and correct while it is still cheap to change — before anyone has drawn a pixel.

  3. 03

You see it as a design, on your phone

One round of design, shown at the size most of your visitors will actually use. You give notes; we do one revision. Two rounds is usually plenty when the words are already settled.

  4. 04

    We build it

Hand-built and static — no page builder, no plugin stack to keep patched, nothing that gets slower as it ages. It works on an old Android on three bars of reception, which is where a lot of your customers are.

  5. 05

We wire it to the rest of your front desk

The booking button books. The phone number rings your receptionist. The enquiry form arrives somewhere you will actually see it. This is the step most sites skip, and it is the reason they do not earn anything.

  6. 06

Launch, with the boring things done

Domain, HTTPS, redirects from your old pages so existing links do not break, sitemap, and your Google Business Profile pointed at the right URL. Nothing glamorous — all of it costs you customers when it is missed.

  7. 07

    Aftercare

Small changes — hours, prices, a new service, a photo — are handled on request. Sites die because updating them was a hassle, so we make updating them our problem rather than yours.

The order of work

We build in the opposite order.

Usually

  1. Design
  2. Photography
  3. An about page
  4. Whatever room is left

Here

  1. What it is for
  2. The words
  3. The design
  4. The build
  5. The connections
  6. Launch

Layout follows copy, never the other way around. You get the text as a plain document to read, argue with and correct while it is still cheap to change.

03—What you actually get

What exists at the end

  1. 01A fast, mobile-first site of the pages you actually need
  2. 02Copy written for your business, yours to keep
  3. 03Booking, phone and enquiry routes that are connected and tested
  4. 04Domain, HTTPS, redirects and search-engine basics set up
  5. 05Google Business Profile pointed at the right place
  6. 06Ongoing small changes on request

How long

Two to four weeks, mostly depending on how fast photos and details come back.

What it costs

A fixed price for the build, plus a small monthly amount for hosting and changes.

Quoted from the page list. You own the domain and the content.

Questions

Do I own the site?

You own the domain and everything written and photographed for it. If you ever leave, you leave with the content and we help you move it.

Can you fix my existing site instead?

Sometimes. If it is on a platform that is not fighting you, patching is cheaper and we will say so. If it is a slow tangle of plugins, rebuilding small is usually cheaper than repairing big.

What about photos?

Your own photos of your own work beat stock every time, even taken on a phone. We will tell you exactly what to shoot.

Ready when you are

A smaller site that works harder.

We start by working out the two or three jobs a visitor came to do, and then we make those unmissable.
